Connection Coalition’s Trauma Informed Outreach Training

connection-coalitions-trauma-informed-outreach-training

In Fall 2016, Left Coast Power Yoga hosted the Connection Coalition’s Trauma Informed Outreach Training, for folks looking to share the practice of yoga to at-risk youth, foster kids, prisons populations, and other communities who have experienced trauma.

CoCo works in collaboration with youth organizations to provide access to tools that help calm the nervous system and allow better decision making through yoga, mindfulness and meditation. Based in Miami, Left Coast is CoCo’s sister studio in the Bay Area, and is excited to to further this important work.

Project HOPE Art

Left Coast is a long-term fundraising partner of Oakland-based 501(c)3 Project HopeArt.

Project HOPE Art uses art as a vehicle to inspire, to educate and to create intentional whimsy. We work with children in hospitals, orphanages, schools and communities in disaster stricken areas, utilizing art to help establish self esteem, self expression, self respect and stress relief for our students. We create art for art’s sake, while educating through our art, science, nutrition and literacy programs. We twirl in tutus and face paint because it’s good for the soul.

Since our inception in January 2010 we have made multiple trips to Haiti and have recently launched a visiting artist program, creating a sustainable way for artists in any medium to share their creativity with our kids and project partners as we strive towards our mission to inspire, heal and improve the quality of life for children in need. More info at www.projecthopeart.org. Here are some pics from Left Coast’s Haitian Dance fundraiser in Summer 2016!

Thanks to LCPY students Oriana Ides, Virginia Watkins, and Elisabeth Bolaza for donating their time to make this happen!

Testimonials

This studio is keeping me sane through Grad School.
Eric
I have noticed a complete change in my body after these two weeks of attending class 5 times a week. I feel tighter, more inclined to shimmy my shoulders on the drop of a dime, and overall feel amazing! THANK YOU!!!
Amy
I tried out a number of studios in the Lakeshore area before finally settling on LCPY. I chose LCPY over others because of its intimacy. Class sizes are small, instructors make individual adjustments, and and the class times work well for a M-F job. Each instructor is very unique in their approach to power yoga. Some focus on arm strength while others focus on the core. You’ll have to attend each class to find which works best for you.
Jacob
You, your teachers, and your studios are all nothing short of incredible. I could not feel more grateful for you and what you have created. I have found so much healing (physical, emotional, spiritual) in your studios and have grown beyond what I thought possible in the past year.
Nate
Thank you for creating a community where I feel so accepted, meet new beautiful people and that makes yoga that meets you right where you are. Whether I need something spiritual, sweaty or just convenient, it is something very special (with a vibe that can only be found in Oakland) and unique at LCPY. I feel grateful to be apart of it!
Jessica
Your amazing fleet of teachers are changing my life for the better. I can’t thank you enough.
Arielle
LCPY has a flexible schedule and teachers who are nice and friendly yet challenging. The room is hot, but not crazy unbearable. Of course, a big factor for me is the price and LCPY, is the most affordable studio in the area with a generous class card policy!
Emily
Yoga Camp was priceless on many levels. It was liberating to be surrounded by so many smart, committed, beautiful (inside and out) people. I didn’t realize how depleted I’ve been without yoga, without Rachel, Whitney, Sterling, Jessie, Shirley, Nina and the whole rest of the community. The weekend was the ultimate counter narrative to this year.
